Attack of the Vine! is right around the corner! With it comes exciting Prerelease events at your local game store. Brand new to a Prerelease? Here’s what you can expect.
Prerelease events allow you to experience the newest set before it is released at mass retailers. Taking place at your local game store, it’s not only a great time to be the first to discover the latest products, but you’ll also meet fellow Disney Lorcana fans.
To find an event near you, make sure to check out the Ravensburger Play Hub. There, you can sign up for an event guaranteeing you a spot. Then all you have to do on July 17 is make your way to your store. A friendly event host will be there to welcome you and get you going in the festivities.
Return of Prerelease Boxes
Your local store will exclusively have Attack of the Vine! Prerelease Boxes on hand for purchase. Inside, you’ll discover six booster packs, four damage dice, an exclusive poster, and one random promo card.
With the booster packs, you can play a few rounds of Pack Rush or put together a Sealed deck, while the included damage dice will help you easily track the damage on your character glimmers.
The poster is something truly special. Done in the style of old B-movie monster movies, they feature Enchanted card art.
What Play Formats to Expect
As hinted above, the Prerelease Box will allow you to participate in your store’s gameplay sessions/competitions.
Sealed is the most common format at Prerelease events. In this format, you will open six booster packs and put together a 40-card deck on the spot. You can use cards from all six inks and you don’t have to worry about the four glimmer per deck rule.
Pack Rush is a beginner-friendly way to play that gives you a quick burst of questing fun. Requiring only two boosters, you will play with 24 cards and are not constrained to two inks. The marketing card in each pack are placed in your inkwell at the beginning of play and are used as ink. (You are already ahead of the game!) The round will follow standard rules, but instead of drawing seven cards at the start, you draw five. You also only need to collect 15 lore to claim victory.
A Few Gameplay Strategies
Attack of the Vine! introduces Disney and Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., Up, and Turning Red into the game. This set also introduces Team classifications, allowing you to strategize your gameplay in a whole new way. Here are just a few tips:
-
There are some new Shift abilities. Combo Shift allows you to play that Team card on top of either character on that card. Duo Shift is similar, but you need to have both characters in play to shift the card on top.
-
Ready to transform into a red panda? Good! Temporary Shift allows you to do just that. However, these red panda cards are returned to your hand at the end of your turn.
-
Pay close attention to the Vinelings. These are copies of glimmers the vine has bloomed to protect itself. Each gives a benefit to fellow Floodborn characters.
Facing off against the vine is not for the faint of heart. But luckily, there are plenty of glimmers in this set that will help stave off this thorny problem. Who knows, you may just come out on top at your event and leave with one of many amazing prizes.
Disney Lorcana brings people together to celebrate their love of Disney as they embark on epic quests. Prerelease events are the place to be if you want to mingle with like-minded fans, all while getting better at the game. We can’t wait to see you at your local game store on July 17, 2026.
