SEALED DECK TIPS

May 8, 2026

Building a sealed deck can seem daunting. From picking cards that interact well together to having a good mix of ink costs, there’s a lot to consider to end up with the right options in your hand at the right time. Here are some tips to help get you started:

  • The minimum deck size is 40 cards, and you can use all ink types. While you can have more than 40 cards, try to stay as close to that number as possible to improve your chances of drawing your best cards when you need them.

  • Playing characters is your key to victory, so make sure you have plenty of character cards. Usually around 30 is ideal, give or take a few.

  • The remaining cards in the deck will be actions, items, and locations. Look for ones that work well with the characters you chose.

  • Consider the ink cost of the cards you’re choosing. You'll want a good mix, to work with the amount of ink you'll have as the game progresses. You should have about 4-6 cards with cost 1, 8-10 with cost 2, and 12-20 with cost 3 or 4. The rest can cost 5 or more.

  • It’s generally best to limit your number of uninkable cards to 10 at the most. The fewer, the better. After all, what’s the point of having great cards if you don’t have enough ink to play them?
