Question: Each set has had distinct art styles based on their respective set. How would you describe the look and feel of the Enchanted cards for Reign of Jafar?
Mike: This set feels like a departure from Archazia’s Island where what was lush and green is now a much less hospitable desert environment. Jafar has transformed the entire landscape to reflect his image where Archazia's palace has gotten a complete makeover. His palace is more spartan with marble, gold, and silver. Magical torches flicker throughout the interior and danger lurks around every corner. The surrounding area that was once lush forest is now a desert filled with snakes and insects. What was once a training ground for Illumineers and their glimmers is now full of dangerous traps and obstacles to overcome in their quest to capture the Hexwell Crown!
Question: What elements of game play or narrative played the largest part in the art direction for the Enchanteds?
Mike: We leaned into Jafar's hour glass, the desert landscape, and a played a bit into Jafar's vanity. With that, sand is ever present as if the glimmers are being seen through the hourglass filled with surrealist elements.
