What’s New in Attack of the Vine!

Attack of the Vine! is here and ready to invade your decks and your collections! With new franchises creeping in, a stellar new Enchanted art style, Vinelings everywhere, and - for the first time - Disney duos, there’s so much for Illumineers to love about this newest set from the Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game!

What I love about being three years into Disney Lorcana is there are more cards to play with, more of my favorite glimmers, and new and exciting art styles and card types to add to my collection.

Now, grab your binders and sleeves, because it’s time to dive into Attack of the Vine! Let’s look at some of the cards I’m most excited to add to my collection and build some decks with!

Disney Duos

There are so many wonderful Disney duos in the stories we know and love - Minnie and Mickey, Lilo and Stitch, and so many more! Up until now, we’ve only been able to collect the glimmers on their own. For the first time in Attack of the Vine! we get Character cards with our favorite duos working together!

The art on these cards is incredible and highlights what we love about the different duos. Woody & Buzz Lightyear – Best Buddies are flying high, Belle & Beast – Certain as the Sun are having an enchanting moment, and Mickey & Minnie – Adventuring Duo are off on a great adventure together! My son is a huge Lilo & Stitch fan and he can’t wait to add these Fun-Loving Friends to his ever-growing Stitch collection binder.

These team up cards are such a wonderful example of how the art and game design work together in Disney Lorcana. From a creative standpoint, the glimmers are teaming up to work together which we see reflected in the art. In the gameplay, they do this with new Shift abilities! Some Team cards can Shift onto one or the other character in the team, and some even Shift onto multiple characters together with Duo Shift or Combo Shift.

New Franchises

We saw the introduction of Pixar glimmers to the realm of Lorcana with Wilds Unknown. Attack of the Vine! brings even more glimmers from Pixar films to the party: Monsters, Inc., Turning Red, and Up!

Collecting all the cards from your favorite franchise is a great way to get into collecting Disney Lorcana game cards, and these Pixar films have some wonderful glimmers to kickstart your collection. 

For fans of Turning Red, you’ll want to collect all the Red Panda glimmers along with Meilin’s friends and, of course, 4*Town. The new Temporary Shift ability is a fun way to transform Meilin and her family into Red Pandas for a turn, and then they come right back to your hand! I know I’ll be blasting “Nobody Like U” while I’m adding these cards to my collection binder and decks!

Up is one of those heartwarming films that grabs you right from the start. It’s exciting to see so many wonderful glimmers from this franchise make their debut in Disney Lorcana. Fans of this Pixar film will find many wonderful glimmers to start their collection. And for Illumineers who want to include these cards in a deck, there’s powerful synergy with locations and items!

There’s a reason why Sulley, Boo, and Mike Wazowski are featured glimmers for Attack of the Vine! Whether you’re a fan of Scarers or Jokesters, this set is in no shortage of these Monsters and more to build your monster collection. One of the fun mechanics with these cards is interacting with the cards in your inkwell. Since ink is the resource Illumineers use in the game, and in Monsters, Inc. they are dealing with an energy crisis, it makes for some fun flavor during gameplay!

Play Promos

Collecting the special Disney Lorcana promo cards is a wonderful way to build your collection through playing the game! There are many ways you can play Disney Lorcana TCG to earn promo cards, and every new set has exciting new cards.

For Illumineers who played at an Attack of the Vine! Prerelease event, you already have one (or more!) of six random Prerelease promo cards. Try and collect all six by trading with friends! My favorite Prerelease promos are Boo – Energetic Child and Merlin – Envisioning the Future.

You can earn three different Weekly Play Promo cards by playing the Disney Lorcana TCG at your local game store during Attack of the Vine! This set’s promos for weekly play are Morph – Little Imitator, Randall Boggs – Scary Smart, and Meilin Lee – Lead Vocalist. 

The ultimate play promo you can earn each set is the Set Championship promo cards! During Attack of the Vine! Set Champs, all players who participate in a store event will get a Rapunzel – Escaping the Tower promo card,  but only those who make Top 8 will earn the special foil promo version of this Rapunzel glimmer!

So, get out there and play to add these promos to your collection!

Vinelings

I don’t know about you, but the Floodborn Vineling cards are all too fantastical not to collect! These are characters that have been picked up by the Vine and duplicated into peculiar new flora forms. Plus, this is a set called Attack of the Vine! So, it seems like collecting The Vine – Towering Stalk, along with some Vinelings like Pete – Created by the Vine and Gaston – Created by the Vine, would be a great addition to your Disney Lorcana collection. And for Illumineers who are looking at building a deck with fun Floodborn synergy, these new Vinelings are the perfect addition.

Cinemayhem Cards

The new Enchanted and Iconic art style is inspired by movie posters, combining the epic drama of cinema with the magical realm of Lorcana to create (dramatic drum roll!) Cinemayhem cards! Each of the Enchanted cards are beautiful, so it’s hard to choose just a few to highlight, but here are some of my favorites I can’t wait to get my hands on.

Pocahontas & Meeko – Adventurous Friends immediately caught my eye. The movement, color, and details in the illustration by Clio Schnaffner perfectly captures the essence of Pocahontas. This card is an excellent addition to a deck that is focused on a more aggressive play style. The Welcome Return ability is great for deck strategies that want to flood the board with many low cost characters.

Encanto is one of my favorite Disney films so I can’t wait to (hopefully!) pull The Madrigal Family – Every Generation from a booster pack. I love how this art by Maxine Vee captures every family member of the Madrigals and their unique personality while still being a beautifully cohesive Cinemayhem card. This Amber Sapphire dual ink card has great synergy with other Madrigal characters that heal – or have triggered abilities when you heal a character!

The Cinemayhem treatment for Meilin Lee – Popular Red Panda is SO fun! Eric Tan’s style brings a smile to my face. The illustration looks like it popped right out of the movie, and I hope to pop this one into my collection binder! For Illumineers who love to build decks around singing songs, her Karaoke Queen ability is super powerful to help you gain lore when she sings. Whether it’s a Turning Red theme deck or a competitive deck around songs, this Red Panda glimmer will definitely be popular.

Iconic Cards

Last up for cards I hope to add to my collection are the new Iconic cards from Attack of the Vine! Like the Enchanted cards, both of these are wonderfully shown in the new Cinemayhem art style for this set. Each card beautifully captures the film in a way that is absolutely Iconic.

If I had to pick one for my collection, I would love to have Belle & Beast – Certain as the Sun. If it’s up to my son, though, he’d take Lilo & Stitch – Fun Loving Friends, hands down! Which one would you like to pull out of a booster pack?
