Two New Monsters, Inc. Themed Decks

BOO!

Mike Wazowski, Sulley, and more monsters have joined the Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game in Attack of the Vine! With fun new mechanics and monstrous synergy, I’ve created a couple of themed decks to bring together glimmers from Disney and Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. to help you win your next game.

Two fun deck synergies stood out to me in this set. Both decks are Core Constructed format, and with set rotation, that means our card pool is only cards from Fabled through Attack of the Vine! But don’t be scared, there are plenty of fun cards to make these decks a screaming good time!

Check them out below and I hope you give them a go . . .I’ll be on the watch like Roz

Monsters are Heroes, Too!

Mike, Sulley, and Boo all have the Hero classification! I knew I could build a fun Amber and Ruby deck all around this synergy.

Sully & Boo – Scare Buddies serves as a critical card in the deck with the new mechanic, Combo Shift. Combo Shift is super fun and The Powers of Friendship ability make this card shine.

You can Shift as early as turn 4 and with the Combo Shift, you get to choose whether you Shift on top of one of your characters named Sulley, one name Boo, or one of each! Then, when Sulley & Boo is banished, whether you have one or two characters underneath the shifted card, the ability allows you to play any characters under that card from your discard for free.

Not only do you have a 6 Strength, 5 Willpower character that can quest for 2, but whenever (and however!) Sulley & Boo is banished, you can bring a character or two immediately back out to the board! Scary indeed.

With Combo Shift glimmers, we need to make sure we have plenty of possible targets. To make this work, the deck includes Boo – In Disguise and Boo – Energetic Child.

The Energetic Child Kid-tastrophe! ability cleans house, banishing opposing characters with 3 Strength or less. For Sulley, we have both the Protective Monster and The New Boss glimmers in the deck. Sulley – The New Boss is a Bodyguard (who also brings a card back from your discard to your hand!), but with Boo – In Disguise in play, even Protective Monster becomes a protective glimmer with the You’re Safe Now ability which says Boo can’t be challenged while there’s any exerted character named Sulley in play, so she can keep on questing for 2 each turn.

Another critical card in this deck is Hercules – Mighty Leader. Hailing from Whispers in the Well, the card has amazing synergy with Heroes. While Hercules is exerted, your other Hero characters can only take damage when they are challenged. This means opponents aren’t able to use cards or abilities that would do direct damage to them. They also won’t take any damage when they’re the ones doing the challenging on your turn.

To help with more challenges, this deck includes the Rahr! card to boost a character's Strength and Next Stop, Olympus to allow you to ready a character and possibly challenge a second time in a turn. Throw in the action card Hero Work from Wilds Unknown and now all your Heroes get +1 Strength. Plus, whenever they challenge, your opponents will lose 1 lore and you’ll gain 1 lore for that turn. Hero synergy!!

Other cards in this deck include Celia Mae – Friendly Receptionist, who can ready a character when she’s played when you pay one additional ink, and Pacha – Panicked Customer, another Hero. Notably, Pacha’s ability Adrenaline Surge gives him +4 Strength on your turn, making him a 6 Strength, 6 Willpower character. Unlike the Challenger keyword, which only applies when challenging, Pacha’s Strength is at all times on your turn, which means you could play Next Stop, Olympus for free.

Two copies of If I Didn’t Have You will help with some card draw. Be careful, though, because you’ll have to choose another player to allow them to draw 2 cards as well. (This could be good in multiplayer, but not necessarily in 1v1.) And the Red Alert card will help with removal, both of characters and lore. Red Alert is a beast.

This deck is about the Hero synergy and Sulley & Boo working together with the Power of Friendship.

Beauty and All The Beasts

Sure, monsters can be heroes, but we also love a good scare. This Ruby/Sapphire deck brings together many monsters and beasts to frighten the competition away. The synergy in this deck rapidly builds up your inkwell to play big, scary monsters and exerts the ink in your inkwell to trigger character abilities.

Starting with the monsters, this deck prominently features Henry J. Waternoos III – Chief Executive Officer. If you have more ink than opposing players, he gets additional lore and gains Ward!

Boo – Human Child will get an additional 2 lore and quest for three when you have 5 or more cards in your inkwell. Use cards like Power Surge, Laugh Canister, and Belle – Snowfield Strategist from Winterspell to build up your inkwell fast.

Randall Boggs – Envious Coworker and Randall Boggs – Scary Smart both have abilities that trigger while all cards in your inkwell are exerted. While some turns you may exert all your ink to play cards, there could be turns where you don’t and you can use the new Scream Canister to help. And once you do have a lot of ink in your inkwell, you can play the biggest monster of all, Maleficent – Monstrous Dragon!

4 Bouh – Enfant humain

4 Randall Bogue – Collègue envieux

2 Germaine – Toujours à l'œil

4 Belle – Toujours en train de lire

3 Sulli – Monstre protecteur

3 Sulli – Terreur stratège

4 Bouh – Enfant énergique

4 La Bête – Défenseur féroce

4 Randall Bogue – Effroyablement intelligent

4 Belle – Stratège du champ de neige

2 Henry J. Waternoose III – Président-Directeur Général

3 Belle & la Bête – Tout comme les étoiles

2 Maléfique – Dragon monstrueux

4 Développe ton cerveau

2 Bonbonne de cris

2 Bonbonne de rire

2 Afflux d'énergie

3 Portail de la porte du placard

4 Alerte rouge

J'espère que ces decks ne vous feront pas trop peur . . . mais peut-être qu'ils feront fuir les Glimmers de votre adversaire et que vous pourrez remporter la victoire avec vos monstres préférés et tous leurs amis !
