Wilds Unknown is arriving soon! Can you sense the excitement for the Prerelease? Now we know some of you haven’t attended one of these exciting, casual events. So, let’s walk you through what to expect so you don’t miss out.
Prerelease events are hosted at your local game store and let you experience the newest Disney Lorcana TCG set a full week before the set is released at mass retailers. What’s more, not only will you be able to get the latest and greatest products, but you’ll get to interact with the enthusiastic Disney Lorcana community and make new friends. To make sure you secure a spot, we highly recommend you create an account on the Ravensburger Play Hub, search for a Prerelease event near you, and sign up for one. That way, all you need to do on May 8 is head to your event, where you’ll be greeted by a helpful and friendly event organizer.
SOMETHING NEW AND EXCITING
If this is your first Prerelease, you are joining at the perfect time. That’s because Wilds Unknown introduces the brand-new Prerelease Packs. These have been made specifically for these types of events.
Inside, you’ll find some fantastic gameplay and collecting items. There are six booster packs, which allow you to play in the format your store has chosen. (We’ll come back to this in a second.) The four themed damage dice help you keep track of the damage on your glimmers. Then there’s the exclusive, randomized postcard and promo card. There are three postcards in total, each featuring one of the set’s distinct biomes. While you will only pull one, this keepsake will clue you in on a bit of the Wilds Unknown story. The promo card features one of six different Traveler cards. These wayfaring glimmers know the biomes well, having explored these dangerous locales for some time. Perhaps you’ll find the likes of Ariel – Curious Traveler, Cinderella – Resourceful Traveler, or Cruella De Vil – Judgmental Traveler.
WHAT PLAY FORMATS TO EXPECT
As hinted above, the Prerelease Pack will allow you to participate in your store’s gameplay sessions/competitions.
Sealed is the most common format at Prerelease events. In this format, you will open six booster packs and put together a 40-card deck on the spot. You can use cards from all six inks and you don’t have to worry about the four glimmer per deck rule.
Pack Rush is a beginner-friendly way to play that gives you a quick burst of questing fun. Requiring only two boosters, you will play with 24 cards and are not constrained to two inks. The marketing card in each pack are placed in your inkwell at the beginning of play and are used as ink. (You are already ahead of the game!) The round will follow standard rules, but instead of drawing seven cards at the start, you draw five. You also only need to collect 15 lore to claim victory.
A FEW GAMEPLAY STRATEGIES
Wilds Unknowns introduces Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story, The Incredibles, and Brave into the game. Pay close attention to how the cards from these different stories synergize together.
- Toys live by the motto: no toy gets left behind. So make sure to read the mechanics on Toy Story cards carefully, as many are willing to extend a helping (plastic) hand to their fellow toy.
- As we all know, the Parr family is stronger when they use their powers together. Coordinate your Supers just right and watch them jump into the fight without delay.
- The Scotts from Brave like to get to work the moment they are played. And they don’t mind nonstop action as they receive strong effects when other cards are exerted.
Certain characters like to stick to certain locales. This is where you will find the newest characters and which ink is associated with that biome.
- Toys can be found in the Wilderknot (Amber and Emerald), while many of Sid’s twisted creations are located in the Great Empty Sea (Ruby)
- Glimmers from The Incredibles like to spend their time in the Great Empty Sea (Ruby and Sapphire) and high up on Torchlight Peaks (Amethyst and Steel)
- If you are seeking Merida and her clan, they frequent Torchlight Peaks (Amethyst and Steel) and the Wilderknot (Emerald)
The trek through the biomes will be perilous, and no one will come out unscathed. Luckily, a glimmer of Julieta Madrigal and a few of her family members have set up a field hospital to help quickly heal your team when needed.
Oh, and before we send you on your way, we need to mention the exciting prizes! Be one of the top players, and you’ll leave with a stunning keepsake to show off your victory.
Disney Lorcana is all about bringing people together. Prerelease events are a fantastic way to meet new friends, perfect your gameplay strategies, or just geek out about your Disney fandom. We hope to see you when Prerelease starts May 8, 2026.
